building a better environment.

Questions from the built environment.

Can you build a better, built environment? And, is it the designer, Architect's job to understand the problems better?

  • If a child's life is influenced by their early years and that child spends most of their time in school. This, making their teacher one of their biggest influencers.

Should teachers, have to have, reviews on their;

  • Psychological welfare

  • Career development

  • Well-being

2. Should teachers be allowed to teach in the same school for more than 5 years?

3. Is it healthy for teachers to take the same drive to work each day for 25 years?

4. Should their needs be considered, should they be helped to meet their needs?

5. Their opinions can have such a high effect on young people?

Case study

  • Wayne goes to school, with a high population. Wayne is known to play around alot at school. The head teacher gives him a talking to about his behaviour. When he is finished he says,' do you want to look after a baby'.

  • Wayne said that he felt like his teacher felt like he would mess it up.

  • Fast forward a few years and Wayne has a baby and says that this is something that he will not mess up on. Like the teacher said.

The point I think I am trying to make is, if a teacher's words can have such a powerful impact on a child, that is lasting. Should the teachers personal and professional development be promount to all students' success?

Of course, there will be other factors. However, the question I leave you with is this;

If we are to build back better, should the impact schools have on our young people be considered when redesigning education systems and, the built environment?
